San Miguel de Allende and other nearby places of interest

Guanajuato is only an hour and a quarter's drive from the famously beautiful San Miguel de Allende where American artists have found inspiration since the 1920s. San Miguel boasts a fabulous market, an astonishing array of galleries and craft shops, fabulous restaurants, and gorgeous villas.

The more traditional small city of Dolores Hidalgo, famous as a producer of high quality, colorful ceramics, is also just over an hour from Guanajuato.

Just above Guanajuato, along the mountain road towards Dolores Hidalgo is the pretty little village of Santa Rosa.  There you can visit the famous Mayolica ceramics shop, from which many of our home's beautiful crafts and tiles originate, hike in the Las Palomas nature area, and enjoy a meal at the top of the mountain overlooking the valley below.

Another colonial gem within two hours' drive is Queretaro, well worth a visit.
